Everyday Thoughts and Events - Han Jeong Lee
My work begins with memories of landscapes endlessly passing by the car window.
The impressions of past nature experiences have accumulated in my memory and, enriched with the emotions of my present, form new spaces. With the vitality and energy of nature – the origin of all life and the medium of my existential perception – I try to shape inner spaces.
Vast landscapes touched by the sky – free of buildings or human traces –
appear new and strange to me and make me reflect on my own existence. At the sight of this infinite nature, the stones and earth mounds beneath my feet, a single unknown tree or the wild grass, I feel that the life force hidden within unfolds in me.
With the discipline of a meditative practice, I apply ink dot by dot: They become trees, forests, fields, and mountains –
and thus into new, living beings. Through the added colors, these creatures reveal their "faces":
The earthy plain full of weeds and dead trees carries an orange face.
Rocks among dense coniferous forests appear white and convey wintry coolness.
Rain-soaked, sunlit meadows shine in vibrant green.
These "Faces of Nature" blend with my own feelings and create new worlds – quiet resonances that even now, at this moment, change relentlessly as I calmly and quietly capture them in drawing.
